Qualified professional (QP): A professional is providing training, supervision and evaluation of personal care assistance services and staff. A QP is a Registered nurse, Licensed social worker, Mental health professional, or Qualified developmental disabilities specialist. QP services include the following:
Developing the care plan with the recipient/responsible party
PCA Traditional
- Training and orientation of PCAs on the individual needs of the recipient
- Training PCAs for a recipient who is ventilator dependent
- Training new procedures or equipment
- Training based on changes to the care plan
- Training based on the needs of the recipient and the PCA’s ability to meet those needs
PCA Choice
- Training and orientation of PCAs at the request of the recipient
- Training PCAs for a recipient who is ventilator dependent
Qualified Professional Visits
- Every 60 days to evaluate 16 and 17-year-old PCAs (Both PCA Choice and Traditional)
- Every 90 days to oversee the delivery of PCA services, during the first year of service (PCA Traditional)
- Every 120 days to oversee the delivery of PCA services, after the first year of service (PCA Traditional)
- Every 180 days, at the shared services site, if you are using shared services
- First visit needs within the 7days of services
- The QP must visit the location of service delivery and meet with the recipient and responsible party to oversee the delivery of PCA services at least every 180 days
After 180 days of service, the qualified professional may alternate face-to-face visits with telephone or web visits with you and your responsible party to oversee the delivery of PCA services.
